Proper application is the secret to a decal that lasts for years!
Follow these steps for a professional finish:
- Clean the Surface: This is the most important step. Use Isopropyl Alcohol or warm soapy water to clean the area. Ensure the surface is completely dry and free of wax, oil, or dust. Note: Avoid using window cleaners (like Windex), as they can leave a residue that prevents the vinyl from sticking.
- Prepare the Decal: Lay the decal on a flat surface and firmly rub a credit card or squeegee across the clear transfer tape. This ensures the decal is stuck well to the tape and will lift off the white backing paper.
- Peel Back Carefully: Slowly peel the white paper backing away from the clear transfer tape. The vinyl design should stay attached to the clear tape. If a piece refuses to lift, lay it back down and rub that area again.
- Align and Apply: Position your decal over the surface. Once you are happy with the placement, start from one side and slowly press the decal down, working your way to the other side to avoid air bubbles.
- Secure the Bond: Use your credit card or squeegee to firmly rub the decal through the transfer tape. Press hard—this activates the adhesive!
- The Big Reveal: Slowly peel the clear transfer tape back at a sharp angle (flat against the surface). If the vinyl starts to lift with the tape, simply press it back down and rub again.
- Final Check: Once the tape is off, do not touch the decal for 24 hours. This allows the adhesive to fully "cure" to the surface.
Applying to a car? Try to do it on a dry day, out of direct sunlight, and when the surface of the car isn't burning hot to the touch!
